Illinois Access to Justice Program Officer
The Westside Justice Center is a community-centered organization that promotes a holistic approach to justice by: 1) Facilitating legal literacy to reduce recidivism; 2) Providing legal and quasi- legal assistance to individuals; and 3) Establishing and nurturing community trust through participatory deliberations and restorative justice practices, to collaboratively mitigate the consequences of incarceration on criminalized communities.
The Illinois Access to Justice (ILA2J) Program Officer is responsible for program implementation, training, outreach, monitoring, reporting and convening partner organizations.
Reports to: ILA2J Program Manager
Assists with contract administration, including program work plans, financial and budget requirements, and assisting with the Request for Proposals (RFP’s) as needed.
Supports the selection process:
Conducts background research and due diligence, prepares grant recommendations for administrative and Board consideration, and responds to unsuccessful proposals;
Recruits, trains and coordinates the work of ILA2J external review committee;
Reviews and evaluates proposals.
Monitoring and evaluation:
Maintains all relevant data for use in tracking, analyzing, including data collection, input, and reporting;
Performs site-visits to evaluate and support partner performance, identifies weaknesses and strengths, assists with outreach plans, provides technical assistance and training;
Responsible for programmatic reports, in coordination with other program staff, to submit to funders on behalf of the program;
Serves as main liaison between Westside Justice Center and external evaluator.
Coordinates and leads monthly program and/or regional meetings with partners to update/inform, receive feedback and share best practices;
Gathers and distributes resources for and from subgrantees on a weekly basis;
Conducts site visits to provide hands on support and be a liaison for Westside Justice Center.
Participates in the design, implementation, refinement and adaptation of grantmaking strategies and in planning future program strategies;
Assists in the design of new initiatives;
Identifies and works with prospective grantees to develop programs that advance grantmaking strategies.
Prepares periodic reports for internal and external purposes
Builds and sustains relationships with colleagues with leaders, actors and organizations in relevant fields, including the public and commercial sectors
Represents the Westside Justice Center at conferences and other public events, including as a speaker or panel participant
Performs other duties as assigned
A minimum of three (3) years of experience in nonprofit management, operations, or development and fundraising;
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience;
Transparent and high integrity leadership;
Ability to work independently and take initiative on areas of responsibility and successful implementer.
Experience in organizational development, strategic planning, capacity building, and/or financial management of nonprofit organizations
Strong organizational abilities including planning, delegating, program development and task facilitation;
Experience with database management.
Experience in training and community outreach preferred.
Excellent interpersonal, public speaking and organizational skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office, Word, Access and Excel,
A car and valid driver’s license are required.
